This year's host, John Leach, and music director, Joe Calautti, will join Sound Waves on today at 1pm to talk about all the excitement on the red carpet at this year's Brevard Live Music Awards.

The event will feature live performances from many local musicians and has a "to see and to be seen" theme that will emphasize glitz and glamor.

Admission is $10 and proceeds will go to Brevard Music Aid Inc, a non-profit designed to help local musicians in need.

Don't miss all the details of the Brevard Live Music Awards today during Sound Waves, starting at 1 pm!

“Playing the sounds that make your heart pound with the beat that moves your feet,” WFIT-FM will groove to the music on Doo-Wop Soul & Rock'N'Roll hosted by Doctor D on Friday nights at 10pm.

Joe Panarello (Doctor D), has been "Playing The Sounds That Make Your Heart Pound With The Beat That Moves Your Feet" for over three decades. Starting out on a small AM station in the 70's near Harrisburg Pa. while in college, Joe went on to non-commercial power house station WBAI FM in NYC doing an afternoon show and engineering for specialty shows.

Joe also worked as a recording engineer at the Brill Building's (NYC) studio. He recorded songs for Del Vikings, Garry Lewis & Playboys, Eddie Day and The NightTimers and more. Later Joe went on to a career in electronics and computer programming.

An avid record collector for way too long, he is still searching for the illusive rare 45. Joe Panarello will be bringing his show of vintage R&B, Blues, Doo Wop, obscure Rock and vintage Garage music to WFIT beginning on August 8th.

WFIT is excited to welcome radio UNLEASHED to our airwaves Saturday mornings from 6-8am.

radio UNLEASHED is a two hour journey exploring and extending the boundaries of music. Hosted by veteran radio personality Dave Leonard and based on the unconventional wisdom of early free-form FM radio, radio UNLEASHED is a hand-crafted weekly two hour radio show, exposing and presenting new and unsigned artists from all genres within a familiar framework of old bones and guilty pleasures.

This program replaces the popular Big Surf Show with Danny Morris as Danny takes time off to concentrate on his work, family and band. WFIT thanks Danny for his long time dedication and wish him all the best.

Tune in for a howling good time with Dave Leonard and radio UNLEASHED, Saturday mornings from 6-8am!

Singer/songwriter Maddy Winer will be Dave Fries’ special guest tonight on A Taste of Jazz starting at 7pm.

Winer toured as a headliner in the stage show “North Carolina Is My Home,” written by and starring Loonix McGlohon and Charles Kuralt, which NPR aired as a television special.

Performing contemporary selections from the Great American Songbook she has become known for her effortless interpretation of jazz styling and has developed a loyal following.

Ms. Winer has opened for Dave Brubeck, Lou Rawls, David Sanborn, Joe Sample, George Shearing, Al Jarreau, Ellis Marsalis and a host of others.

We look forward to  an informal discussion of her experiences, her music and her love of jazz. Don't miss Maddy Winer tonight starting at 7pm, only on WFIT 89.5 FM!

Vibraphonist and pianist Christian Tamburr, who was named Florida Tech’s Music Artist in Residence in January, will gather an all-star band and record his fifth album July 13-14 at the WFIT studio.

“I'm beyond thrilled about this project and honored to be doing it at FIT,” Tamburr said.  This will be Tamburr’s fifth album under his own name. His previous release, “Places,” received wide acclaim and placed in the top 10 national charts for six weeks. The new album will feature Tamburr on vibraphone, Kevin Bales on piano, Billy Thornton on bass, Quentin Baxter on drums and special guest Dominick Farinacci on trumpet.

As part of his 2014 residency at Florida Tech’s School of Arts and Communication, Tamburr teaches master classes and workshops with music students, performs at the Gleason Performing Arts Center and conducts local outreach at public schools throughout Brevard County.

Beyond Florida Tech, Tamburr tours internationally and represents one of the prominent names in modern jazz around the world today. He is the musical director for Vegas Nocturne at Rose.Rabbit.Lie in the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas.
