Florida Institute of Technology’s all-faculty band TWITCHY will rock the dinosaur bones and planetary displays at the Orlando Science Center from 8-11 p.m. Saturday, June 7, as the facility holds its Science Night Live event.
Led by Florida Tech President and CEO Anthony Catanese and featuring Senior Vice President for External Relations & Economic Development Winston Scott, a two-time shuttle astronaut, the band will jam its way through rock music, timeless classics and more at this 21-and-older event.
Swells of Interest is a collection of east coast surf footage from hurricane and tropical storms and other memorable swells from 2008 to spring 2014. The film, by Cocoa Beach surfer and videographer Diana Wehrell-Grabowski, features many central east coast surfers.
The film debuts on May 31 at 8 p.m. at the Cocoa Beach Surfside Playhouse. Admission is $5 and all proceeds benefits the Cocoa Beach chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.
Beyond footage of storm surf, Swells of Interest includes meterological narratives on numerous swells, as well as individual surfers sharing their memories of the swells. The soundtrack features covers of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Emerson Lake, and more performed by a variety of artists, and also includes surf tunes from Cocoa Beach surf band, The Aquanuts.
Melbourne In May Food Festival is Saturday, May 31 at Riverview Park. The festival is a major food drive initiative culminating in a festival with food, arts and crafts vendors, giveaways and entertainment. The event will feature many of Central Florida's most popular food truck vendors.
The ZWM Hope Foundation is holdings its second annual Kickin' It For Hope Tournament and Family Fun Day on Sunday, June 1st. Proceeds will go to benefit the foundation, which provides children with disabilities in Brevard County life improving medical devices and other necessities.
The Melbourne High School Surf Club is holding its second annual fundraiser to help the team fly to California to compete in the NSSA High School Championships.
The fundraiser will be held this Saturday, May 24, at Sebastian Inlet Surf and Sport located at 8898 S. Highway A1A in Melbourne Beach. The team will have a fun "expression session" at the beach starting at 4pm, followed by music and food at 6pm. Cash donations for food, drinks, music, raffles and demos will be accepted throughout the event.
