In its 14th year, the Melbourne Independent Filmmakers Festival continues to be a fun metropolitan venue for some of today's most inventive filmmakers. The Festival takes place Friday and Saturday, September 28 and 29th at Premier Theatre Oaks Stadium 10, 1500 W. Hibiscus Blvd., Melbourne. Forty plus films will be shown, including five features (four made in Florida), two animations, seven documentaries, The Year of the Dragon entries and thirty-four Florida films.
The Foosaner Art Museum presents a comprehensive exhibition of the work of Ernst Oppler (German, 1867 – 1929). The exhibit runs Sept. 15 through Jan. 6, 2013.
Oppler studied and worked in Munich, London, Holland and France but eventually settled in Berlin. He became an active member of the Berlin Secession, a group of artists who championed the new, Impressionist style.
