Community, music and arts events of relevance to the Space Coast

Thanks to the King Center for Performing Arts, the Brevard community will have the opportunity to enjoy a an evening with the legendary Bonnie Raitt on Tuesday, October 23rd.

According to a recent segment on World Cafe, although Bonnie Raitt began releasing albums 40 years ago, her latest release, Slipstream is among her best work yet: 

In its 14th year, the Melbourne Independent Filmmakers Festival continues to be a fun metropolitan venue for some of today's most inventive filmmakers.  The Festival takes place Friday and Saturday, September 28 and 29th at Premier Theatre Oaks Stadium 10, 1500 W. Hibiscus Blvd., Melbourne.
Forty plus films will be shown, including five features (four made in Florida), two animations, seven documentaries, The Year of the Dragon entries and thirty-four Florida films. 

The Space Coast Music Festival is a benefit for the E.A.R.T.H. Awareness Music in the Schools program. This year’s recipient is Cape View Elementary School. The Festival will be held Saturday, September 29 from noon to 10 p.m. at Manatee Sanctuary Park, Cape Canaveral.

Foosaner Art Museum Presents German Impressionist Ernst Oppler

The Foosaner Art Museum presents a comprehensive exhibition of the work of Ernst Oppler (German, 1867 – 1929). The exhibit runs Sept. 15 through Jan. 6, 2013.

Oppler studied and worked in Munich, London, Holland and France but eventually settled in Berlin. He became an active member of the Berlin Secession, a group of artists who championed the new, Impressionist style.

The Titusville Rotary Club and the Titusville Sunrise Rotary Club have joined together to celebrate the United Nations International Day of Peace on Friday, September 21 at 2 p.m.  As part of their peace building efforts, the clubs will commemorate the day with the unveiling of a locally decorated Peace Pole. The celebration takes place at Rotary Riverfront Park in Titusville.
