A Taste of Jazz

Mondays, 7 p.m. - 10 p.m.

A Taste Of Jazz is mainstream jazz at its best hosted by Dave Fries (friesd@fit.edu). The classic sounds are highlighted with artists like Davis, Coltrane, Brubeck and Mingus as well as the contemporary sounds of today’s headliners like Brad Mehladu, Stacy Dillard, Joshua Redman and so many others. Contemporary big bands are sprinkled in and we don’t shy away from tasteful jazz vocalists. What you won’t hear is smooth jazz or recordings prior to the 1950’s. The emphasis here is good jazz without a whole lot of chatter.

Tom is one of only a handful of people in the world who can play bass pedals as the same time he plays guitar! This blend of two instruments in this way will bring a unique sound to his performance. We will talk about his teaching techniques, the physics of playing two instruments at the same time, one with his hands and the other with his feet, and listen to some tracks he has recorded with other local musicians.

Join Dave Fries this Monday following All Things Considered for an evening of the very best in jazz and a fun filled as well as informative set by Tom Hueston.
