The show carries a lively mix of contemporary music, independent labels and rock classics. Fight The Swing Live On Sound Waves This Friday

 Tune in this Friday on Sound Waves for a special live acoustic set with Melbourne indie band Fight The Swing at noon.

Their debut album is set to be released and Fight The Swing has several high profile gigs coming up.

The band formed in 2012 as a group of friends with a unique sound. They name Fugazi, The Pixies and Radiohead as their influences. 

We’ll chat with band members Tone Egan and Andy Wolking, who will play a few songs from their upcoming album.

The Broken Bells Ring Clear

Broken Bells were an alternative radio hit with their self-titled debut album, but could their sophomore disc live up to the hype?

The duo made up of Danger Mouse (Brian Burton,) and James Mercer, the lead singer of the The Shins, looked to do just that when they released their second full length album this month, the interestingly titled After the Disco, released on January 14.

The title of Broken Bells latest record may be After the Disco, but the album ironically evokes almost Bee Gees-esque vocals throughout.

Kicking off with the track “Perfect World,” the duo jumps right in with thought provoking lyrics “I’ve got nothing left. It’s kind of wonderful, ‘cause there’s nothing they can take away,” all while keeping your head bobbing and leg thumping.

The Cook Trio Live Session Podcast

The Cook Trio performed a live session in the WFIT studios on Feb. 21. The Cook Trio composed of brothers Ian and Jason Cook on guitar, and Kyle Jones on bass. With myriad influences from Coltrane to Monk, their music brings an American perspective to Gypsy jazz in the style of Django Reinhart.

Live Session With Michael Jon Goodrich This Friday

Our first Sound Waves live session of the year kicks off with a set of local music featuring Michael Jon Goodrich from Melbourne Beach.

While juggling his own busy business and family life, Michael has put together some fine tunes. He’ll bring his band into our studios at noontime this Friday Jan. 17. It’s a great way to spend your lunch hour hearing some live local music on WFIT 89.5 FM.
