WFIT and Florida Institute of Technology will honor Jack Simpson, host of Jazz On The Beach, in celebration of his 90th Birthday. The event takes place Tuesday, September 16, 2014 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Gleason Performing Arts Center on campus.
Jack is a Central Florida jazz legend who has influenced untold listeners and musicians alike. His show Jazz On The Beach airs on both WFIT and WUCF in Orlando and has been enjoyed by many for 45 years.
Jazz on the Beach is a show that can best be described as "straight ahead" or "mainstream", which means a combination of traditional, small group or big band swing, be-bop ,west coast, etc. It plays some current, or reissued recordings, some broadcast jazz shows of long ago, and some vocals. You might ask "does it swing?" Host Jack Simpson always hopes so!! Jazz on the Beach plays every Thursday night from 7 to 10 p.m.
