Titusville Rotary Clubs Celebrate The United Nations International Day of Peace

The Titusville Rotary Club and the Titusville Sunrise Rotary Clubhave joined together to celebrate the United Nations International Day of Peace on Friday, September 21 at 2 p.m.  As part of their peace building efforts, the clubs will commemorate the day with the unveiling of a locally decorated Peace Pole. The celebration takes place at Rotary Riverfront Park in Titusville. A reception immediately follows the unveiling ceremony.  Practical, everyday acts of peacemaking within ourselves and our own communities will be emphasized.

Peace Day can be celebrated by anyone, anywhere.  It can be as simple as watching a sunset, lighting a candle, sitting in silent meditation or performing an act of kindness. It can also involve planning a community-wide event that brings divergent parts of the community together. The impact of people in all parts of the world, coming together for one day of peace is immense.

Rotary International and the United Nations have partnered on a variety of peace related projects since 1945.  Rotary's commitment to peace is evidenced by Rotary International President Sakuji Tanaka designating "Peace Through Service" as the theme for the current Rotary year.
