Take Back The Night Domestic Violence Awareness Rally At Florida Tech

You can help "take back the night, shatter the silence and stop the violence."

The national and worldwide statistics associated with domestic violence are tragic and deeply troubling. Every 9 seconds in the United States a woman is assaulted or beaten. Around the world, at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime. The Florida Department of Law Enforcementreported 3,862 cases of domestic violence in Brevard County in 2012. This shocking statistic includes 9 murders and attests to our own domestic violence crisis here in Brevard.

The Take Back The Night Foundation serves to create safe communities and respectful relationships through awareness events and initiatives.

You can help make a difference by attending the 5th Annual Take Back The NightCommunity Wide Domestic Violence Awareness event. Hosted by The Brevard Chapter of the National Organization for Women, the event takes place Friday, October 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Panthereum on the Florida Tech campus.

Free and open to the public, there will be live music by Different Worlds Band, raffles, speakers, representatives from domestic violence shelters, the domestic violence task force, vendors and much more. Organizations on display include The Silent Witness and The Clothesline Project. There will be a candle light closing by Suzanne Lacy

Sponsors, food vendors, musicians, tablers, raffle item donations and volunteers are needed.

All proceeds benefit local domestic violence shelters and programs in Brevard County. For further information, email president@brevardnow.org or call 321-749-0025.
