SCPA Presents Take A Closer Look Nov 3rd 6:30

SCPA First Thursday Event

Thursday, November 3rd, 6:30 p.m., at the Front Street Civic Center, 2205 Front Street, Melbourne, FL.

Florida voters have more to decide on than just the candidates on November's election ballot.  On November 3rd, the Space Coast Progressive Alliance will host an in-depth, closer look at the proposed Amendment 1 ("Rights of Electricity Consumers Regarding Solar Energy Choice") to the Florida Constitution, and the County Referendum ("Save Our Indian River Lagoon 1/2 Cent Sales Tax Referendum") that will raise money and implement a critical lagoon clean-up plan.  Many people have questions on these two ballot items, and we will hear from two experts that can answer your questions.

Lorraine Koss - Will explain the truth behind Amendment 1.

She has worked in water policy and communications for all of her career.  Most recently she was the Deputy for the U.S. Water Alliance in Washington D.C.  She has a master's degree in Environmental Management from Duke University.  Lorraine became involved with the League of Women Voters earlier this year and is leading the Florida Solar United Neighborhoods initiative on the Space Coast.  She and her husband are members of the SCPA and live in Cocoa.

Matt Culver - Will detail the "Save Our Lagoon Program Plan", and the referendum.

He's the Boating and Waterways Program Coordinator for Brevard County’s Department of Natural Resources Management.  He’s got a master’s degree in Coastal Management from Florida Tech, and two bachelor’s degrees in Environmental Science from the University of Washington at Seattle.  He’s been a happy resident of Brevard County for 15 years, and currently lives in Indialantic.

The SCPA is a non-partisan organization that does not endorse candidates, but we are very concerned about these two items!

The SCPA Board recommends voting "NO" on Amendment 1 and "YES" on the Save Our Lagoon Referendum.
