Economic Impact on Working Men and Women

Written by  Bill Gabrenya
1st Thursday, September 1st: Labor Day Panel/Economic Impact on Working Men and Women

Even though our nation has been on a slow and steady recovery from the Great Recession, life is still hard for millions of unemployed or low-income Americans.  Many of us don’t understand the hardships, sacrifice and pain that working class families face every day.   For many of us, homelessness is just a missed paycheck away!     This is your chance to learn about what’s happening, and what can be done to fix it!   Speakers:   Richard Pierce Fire Fighter, and President, Local 2969, Intl. Assn. of Fire Fighters.  Will discuss the challenges that face our Fire Fighters, Paramedics, and EMTs right here in Brevard County!   Keith Heinly Community Impact Manager, United Way of Brevard.  He has spent years working to help struggling, sometimes homeless, families here on the Space Coast.   Dr. Rich Templin Political and Legislative Director, Florida AFL/CIO.  Dr. Templin is returning to tell us about the value of unions to the lives of working people across our state, and how important it is to have the support of elected officials who actually care about workers.  Elections have consequences.   Kofi Hunt Political Organizer for “Fight For 15 — Florida”.  Kofi is a bright and energetic young man who has served “in the trenches” of organizing the effort to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour.   Brad Ashwell Legislative Director of the Florida Alliance for Consumer Protection.  Working families are some of the most important consumers in our economy.  It’s important to understand that protecting them from “payday loan sharks” and fraudsters, guards all of us.    --------------------------------- 1st Thursdays (sometimes 2nd or 3rd Thursdays) are monthly gatherings --building the growing progressive community. Share your petitions and other items of interest, make brief announcements. Enjoy the gathering, super programs, super people. Bring a friend! We advance progressive policies that further civil and personal liberty, the environment, health care, education, labor, peace, social welfare, financial stability and international harmony.
