King Center for Performing Arts - Sunday, February 22, 2015 at 2:00 PM - FREE

A voyage that celebrates American music “From Sea to Shining Sea” is on tap as the Melbourne Municipal Band (MMB) presents its first concert ever to be held at the King Center for the Performing Arts on February 22, beginning at 2 p.m. There is no charge for the concert, but tickets are required and available by contacting the band office at 724-0555.

The event will also feature Swingtime, the 20-piece Big Band of the MMB. Swingtime is conducted by Art Martin and will feature special guest Winston Scott on trumpet, playing Harry James’ You Made Me Love You. Also participating is the Brevard Community Chorus, directed by Dr. Robert Lamb. The concert is the highlight of the MMB’s 50th Anniversary Season of “Music, Memories and Celebration.”

“This is going to be an amazing event for our audience and our musicians,” said Conductor Staci Cleveland. “I cannot think of a better way to celebrate 50 years of service to our community than by providing an afternoon of free music at this world-class venue. Having our entire MMB organization on stage at one time to perform with the Brevard Community Chorus is going to be a thrilling event!”

The program will feature distinctly American and patriotic tunes, including American Fanfare, Battle Hymn of the Republic, America the Beautiful, and some favorite Big Band tunes from Swingtime. All groups combined will perform Irving Berlin’s America and the concert will conclude with Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa.

Artist Derek Gores will be in attendance with his MMB commemorative collage, Scrapbook Medley. Raffle tickets will be sold for the original to raise funds for the MMB, with a drawing to take place in 2015. Limited-edition prints and posters may also be ordered.
