Fun & Educational-Social Media Main Topic at Library Summer Camp

Library Summer Camp What We Know: Understanding Media and Its Influence

Every day, information comes to us from lots of places – the Internet, magazines and newspapers, TV and radio, billboards, and other media. Whether we realize it or not, all of the information that we absorb affects what we believe about ourselves, the world, and our place in society.

In this camp, students will look behind the face of media information to understand its influence on what we ultimately believe, and create original media information for a variety of purposes.

Camp Details:

This camp is intended for middle and high school students who are comfortable using the Internet and posting information via the library’s Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, WordPress, and Instagram accounts. Personal social media accounts are not required.

Campers will explore alternative and mainstream media to understand how information is used to create meaning and need. We will critique the people behind media information to discover the part of the story that's not being told, and create our own original media messages – to show what we know!
