Crane Creek Founders Heritage Festival

The Greater Allen Chapel is hosting the festival to increase awareness of African American culture and history and the role it played in the development of the City of Melbourne.  The ultimate goal for the event is to provide a sense of pride for the aggregate Melbourne Community.  Celebrating the heritage and history of the Crane Creek Founders, this event is free and open to the public.

The Greater Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church was first organized in the City of Melbourne, Florida in the 19th Century. The first meetings were held in the dining room of Wright and Mary Brother's home on Crane Creek, facing the northwest of Lipscomb Street. The organizers were Wright and Mary Brothers, Robert and Carrie Lipscomb, Balam Allen and his wife. The house is still standing, and was formally the home of Dr. Nelly Holman.
