Brevard Symphony Orchestra Presents Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy”

Saturday, October 24, 2015 – 8:00pm

Mark PiszczekSongs from the Gulf of Sorrows {WORLD PREMIERE}
Ludwig van Beethoven – Symphony No. 9 “Ode to Joy”

Christopher Confessore, Music Director & Principal Conductor

Message from the Maestro:
Few musical experiences match the scope and power of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Every performance of this symphony is an event – our October 24th performance marks just the second time in the BSO’s 62 year history we’ve tackled this epic piece. We’ll also present the World Premiere of Mark Piszczek’s Songs from the Gulf of Sorrows, a work dedicated to the wildlife victims of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Will there be Concert Conversations with Chris Confessore for this concert? Yes

At its home in the Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts, the chorus has performed such works as Handel’s Messiah, Poulenc’s Gloria, Mozart’s Requiem, Brahms’s Ein Deutsches Requiem, and Orff ’s Carmina Burana.
The current conductor of the chorus is Dr. Robert E. Lamb who came to BCC in 1998 to continue steering the chorus in exciting directions. Under his leadership, the chorus has continued to tour Europe during summers and has performed a number of times alongside the Brevard Symphony Orchestra. Learn more.
