Brahms & Beethoven: A Chamber Concert

Brahms & Beethoven: A Chamber Concert

In a fitting windup to their 2017-18 season, the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will present Brahms & Beethoven: A Chamber Concert.

Featuring several orchestra principal string players, including concertmaster Carey Moorman, the free chamber concert takes place Saturday, June 9 at 7 p.m. at Cocoa Beach Community Church and on Sunday, June 10 at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach.

In 1857 Brahms created his Opus 18 Sextet. The work marked his transition from emotional extroversion to pensive reflection. Brahms  wrote, “The ideal and the genuine man is calm both in his joy and in his sorrow.” It's an apt summation of this majestic composition.   The four-movement work has been used numerous times in movies and on television, including the "Sarek" episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Beethoven's Quintet in C Minor is actually an arrangement from the great composer’s first published piece, a set of piano trios.   Nearly 25 years later, the composer premiered the same piece for a string quintet—a quartet with an additional viola.   This quintet became one of Beethoven's most popular early chamber works, filled with freshness, youthful zest and energy.

"We have so many incredibly talented musicians who just want to play," said Conductor and Artistic Director, Aaron Collins. "And that includes these wonderful string players.  This free concert for the community will give chamber music lovers a chance to experience works by Brahms and Beethoven in closer proximity to the musicians. They are a great sextet."

Carey Moorman is the Concertmaster for the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra.  He performs regularly in the First Violin Section with the Orlando Philharmonic also having served as Acting Principal 2nd Violinist.  Other featured musicians for Brahms & Beethoven:  Joni Roos, violin; Michael De Jesus, viola; Daniel Cortes, viola; Paul Fleury, cello; and Isaac Moorman, cello.

Admission to the performance  is free. The Cocoa Beach Community Church is located at 26 S Atlantic Avenue and the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach is  located at 520 Royal Palm Blvd.
