The iconic 1969 movie "Easy Rider," featuring Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda (and his star-spangled motorcycle) will be shown Aug. 20.

Heading toward its final month, the exhibition “Pop Art in America” at Florida Institute of Technology’s Foosaner Art Museum has spurred a series of related events in August that offer something for just about everyone.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up.

  • Easy Rider, 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, Harris Community Auditorium at Foosaner Art Museum, 1463 Highland Ave., Melbourne. Free admission.Considered an iconic film of the 1960s counterculture and starring Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper (who also directed) and Jack Nicholson, Easy Rider focuses on two bikers, in search of freedom, who travel across America and experience intolerance. Released in 1969, a year of pivotal events including the concert at Woodstock and the tragic assassinations of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. the movie, with its documentary-style, improvised dialogue and contemporary rock soundtrack, reflected the chaos of the late 60s.

The movie will be followed by a discussion led by Lisa Danker, an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida’s Visual Arts and Design program. Danker has assigned Easy Rider for viewing in her classes and has led discussions about viewers’ responses to the film’s style as well as its impact on the public perception of independent film in the 60s.

Concessions, including popcorn, beer and wine available. Cash only.

  • Pop Art Family Day, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, Foosaner Art Museum. This day-long festival features family-oriented activities, hands-on art making and the Veggie Love food truck. Activities are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Gallery admission is free.

Among the events on Pop Art Family Day:

  • The Factory Interactive Gallery: Pop art photo booth and video in an interactive gallery inspired by Andy Warhol’s NYC studio.
  • Art Making Activities, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Storytime: Uncle Andy’s Cats, noon and 2 p.m.: James Warhola’s childhood memories of trips to New York City to visit his uncle, Andy Warhol (he changed his name), inspired this warm, funny story of the famous artist’s house full of cats.
  • Silver Clouds installation, mimicking Warhol’s 1966 installation at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York City.
  • And docent-led family tours will be offered at 2 p.m. Thursdays Aug. 13, 20, 27. Docents are trained volunteers with specialized knowledge of the exhibitions. The Family Tours are designed to enrich the Pop Art exhibition experience for adults and their children. Free.
