1st Annual Captain Hiram’s Surfest Benefits Surfrider Foundation

Surfrider Foundation is an international non-profit conservation group dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of oceans, waves, and beaches. Our chapter covers south Brevard and Indian River Counties. We work to keep our beaches as natural as possible, preserve and enhance beach access, and we're also involved in efforts to restore the IRL. Funds raised are used, for example, to purchase re-usable shopping bags which are given away to reduce use of plastic shopping bags (plastics in our ocean are a huge problem - local angle is that plastic bags kill sea turtles), perform sea oat plantings to reinforce our beach dunes, do native plant shoreline projects which provide habitat and filter runoff into our IRL
