Program Director / Sound Waves Host

Originally from Boston, Todd Kennedy began volunteering at WFIT 89.5 FM in 1992 as a late night jazz DJ. In 1998 he was hired as Director of Operations and in 2004 he became Program Director.

As Program Director, he is responsible for formulating the sound of the station. His daily duties include managing broadcast communications, operating satellite services and broadcast automation systems. He is also in charge of overseeing all studio productions and digital editing.

He also plays an important role in coordinating fundraising materials, outreach events and underwriting activities. He trains and supervises community volunteers and on-air hosts, and has been seeing doing a little plumbing and vacuuming on the side.

Todd’s energy and great passion for music can be enjoyed every Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sound Waves, the show he has been hosting since January 2006.

Legendary local band Dead Serios will be recording a 3 song set and interview at WFIT Broadcast Center today at 1 p.m.

Dead Serios will be celebrating their 30th anniversary this year with a special concert at the King Center Studio Theater on Saturday, January 24 7:00pm.
Described stylistically as Frank Zappa-meets-Metallica at the Willy Wonka factory, the award-winning band Dead Serios first launched from Florida’s Space Coast in 1985.

They continue to delight fans with its unique brand of irreverent, high-energy rock and roll.

The 4th Annual Brevard County’s Original Music Series Finals takes place this Sunday, January 11th , 6 p.m. at Lou’s Blues, Indialantic.                                      

Original Music Series organizer, Steve Keller will  visit WFIT Broadcast Center today - Thursday, Jan. 8 at noon during Sound Waves.                                               

Keller will  talk with Todd Kennedy about the final contestants of the Brevard Live Magazine Original Music Series.

Here’s the long awaited annual Sound Waves Top 30.  There were a lot of great albums released in 2014.  It was truly difficult to select only 30, but these albums got a lot of spins on Sound Waves throughout the year.

Casey Turner is a Florida Tech alumni and musician who now lives in California.  He shared this cool Holiday clip with us.

In 1967, Bob Dylan and several members of what would become The Band, got together in upstate New York. For months they recorded as they played.

Bootleg recordings of these sessions were passed around until Columbia Records finally issued a small part of these recording as The Basement Tapes.
