Rose Mantle

Public Service Announcement Director, Community Outreach

After serving as a volunteer, Rose Mantle joined the staff of WFIT in 2007.  As Public Service Announcement Director, Rose writes copy for the hundreds of announcement requests WFIT receives from the Space Coast and Treasure Coast communities.  She also serves as community outreach coordinator and intern supervisor, contributes to WFIT's website and social media, and writes the Brevard County Community Cultural Grant for the station. 

Before moving to Melbourne Beach from Sonoma, California, Rose worked in advertising and communications, first as an account executive for the Sonoma Index-Tribune, a venerable local newspaper, and at ValPak Direct Marketing where Rose expanded her love of language and honed the skills necessary for her many duties at WFIT.

Rose attended Orange Coast Community College in Costa Mesa, California and earned her bachelor’s degree in English at Sonoma State University in 1976.

WFIT is an integral and rewarding part of Rose’s life in Florida.  She is deeply proud of her position with this National Public Radio affiliate.  Rose takes great pleasure in assisting non-profit organizations promote their philanthropic and cultural missions.  Most rewarding is working alongside the tight knit and creative community of the WFIT staff and volunteers.

When not busy with her duties at the station, Rose enjoys music, reading, gardening, exercise, and playing the piano.  She travels with her husband to California twice a year to spend time with lifelong friends and family.

Weekend Community Events Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Monday, January 19 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the Brevard community is honoring Dr. King with a variety of events and celebrations. Dr. King was an American pastor, activist, humanitarian, and leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement.  

Signed into law in 1983,  the day took on a deeper meaning in 1994 when Congress named Martin Luther King Jr. Day a national day of service

Brevard NOW and Florida ACLU Host Roe at Risk:Fighting for Reproductive Justice, Jan. 13

In observance of the 42nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade,  the Brevard Chapter of The National Organization for Women (NOW) presents Roe at Risk: Fighting for Reproductive Justice.     

The event takes place Tuesday, January 13, 5:30 p.m. at Blue Cellar on New Haven Avenue in downtown Melbourne. The presentation will take place during Brevard NOW's monthly meeting. 

Special guest speaker is Joyce Hamilton Henry Ph.D; Director of Mid Florida Region, ACLU Florida.

Florida Department of Health Brings the Faces of HIV to Brevard, Jan. 19, 20

The Florida Department of Health is bringing its' Faces of HIV Mobile Art Exhibit to the Melbourne Auditorium and Eastern Florida State College on Monday and Tuesday, January 19th and 20th.  

The Faces of  HIV mobile art exhibit depicts the lives of Florida residents living with HIV and AIDS through portraits, video interviews, and journal writing. The exhibit evolved out of Florida Department of Health's initiative, We Make The Change.

Melbourne Chamber Music Society presents Prima Trio - a chamber group of uncommon variety and repertoire.   

The performance takes place Tuesday, January 13, 7:30 pm, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Indialantic.

Attention Beachside Residents - 12th Annual Bargain Sea Oats Sale Is Underway

Attention beachside residents. It’s time again to pre-purchase sea oats for dune planting through Brevard County's Natural Resources Management Department and Keep Brevard Beautiful.  

Sea oats are native to Brevard's coastal communities. They stabilize sand, slow erosion and build dunes, which are an important feature of our coastal ecosystem.

Quantities are limited so please order early. Sea oats must be ordered and paid for by Friday, Jan. 30.
