Rose Mantle

Public Service Announcement Director, Community Outreach

After serving as a volunteer, Rose Mantle joined the staff of WFIT in 2007.  As Public Service Announcement Director, Rose writes copy for the hundreds of announcement requests WFIT receives from the Space Coast and Treasure Coast communities.  She also serves as community outreach coordinator and intern supervisor, contributes to WFIT's website and social media, and writes the Brevard County Community Cultural Grant for the station. 

Before moving to Melbourne Beach from Sonoma, California, Rose worked in advertising and communications, first as an account executive for the Sonoma Index-Tribune, a venerable local newspaper, and at ValPak Direct Marketing where Rose expanded her love of language and honed the skills necessary for her many duties at WFIT.

Rose attended Orange Coast Community College in Costa Mesa, California and earned her bachelor’s degree in English at Sonoma State University in 1976.

WFIT is an integral and rewarding part of Rose’s life in Florida.  She is deeply proud of her position with this National Public Radio affiliate.  Rose takes great pleasure in assisting non-profit organizations promote their philanthropic and cultural missions.  Most rewarding is working alongside the tight knit and creative community of the WFIT staff and volunteers.

When not busy with her duties at the station, Rose enjoys music, reading, gardening, exercise, and playing the piano.  She travels with her husband to California twice a year to spend time with lifelong friends and family.

SWIMM - Christmas In Florida Includes Shows In Orlando and Indialantic

Last month SWIMM announced that they would be performing four December shows in Florida - "SWIMM - Christmas in Florida."

The announcement was met with excitement and anticipation from their ever-growing fan base here in Melbourne, Florida. Both Chris Hess (lead vocals, guitar, piano) and Adam Winn (drums) are originally from Melbourne.

The ArtWorks of Eau Gallie Fine Arts Festival, Nov. 22, 23

The ArtWorks of Eau Gallie Fine Arts Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday, November 22nd and 23rd in Melbourne’s historic district of Eau Gallie.              

This fine arts festival is truly an art lover's dream come true. The festival is a ‘plein-air’ show in which all artists exhibit their skills with public demonstrations in the ‘open air.’

All Aboard Florida to Hold Public Meeting on Environmental Impacts of High Speed Rail, Nov. 12

I was contacted today by the Space Coast TPO about an important public meeting that Brevard County residents are highly encouraged to attend.

On Wednesday, November 12, All Aboard Florida will present a public meeting on the local environmental impacts of their proposed high speed rail project. The meeting takes place from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Cocoa Civic Center.

American Jazz Pianist Competition Trio Finals On A Taste of Jazz, Nov. 3

Emmet Cohen, American Jazz Pianist Competition Grand Prize Winner.

Tune in to  A Taste of Jazz Monday, November 3rd at 7 p.m. when Dave Fries will broadcast the American Jazz Pianist Competition's (AJPC)  Trio Finals.

The competition was held at Florida Institute of Technology's Gleason Center for Performing Arts on November 1st and 2nd, 2014.

On Sunday, November 2nd, AJPC Finalists competed in Trio Finals from 2 - 4 p.m. The Solo Finals took place from 5 - 6:30 p.m. and were broadcast live by WFIT.

6th Annual Native Rhythms Festival at Wickham Park, Nov. 7-9

Robert Mirabal will perform at the Native Rhythms Festival

I can almost hear the hauntingly beautiful sounds of Native American flutes and drums that will fill the air at Wickham Park, Melbourne this weekend.  The 6th Annual Native Rhythms Festival takes place Friday, November 7th through Sunday, November 9th.

The celebration is held each November in honor of National American Indian Heritage Month. Just last week, Melbourne Mayor Kathy Meehan issued a  proclamation declaring November as Native American Heritage Month in the city of Melbourne.
