Joel Greenblatt

Host of Exploring Jazz

Joel Greenblatt is a trombonist from New York City. Since moving to Melbourne in 2005, Joel had a two-year tenure with the Space Coast Jazz Society as presiding director. He has also participates in several community bands and has done his best to support the local jazz scene. Currently he is the leader of the Space Coast Jazz Society Big-Band and the Freedom Jazz Orchestra. Joel also teaches several students trombone and jazz improvisation.

As a young man Joel studied classical music and was the first chair in the All-City band.

At the age of 19, he studied jazz improvisation with the acclaimed pianist and jazz teacher, Lenny Tristano. After Lennie passed, he continued studying the Tristano method with Lenny's longtime student and protégé, Connie Crothers.

Joel has also played with several working big bands and small groups in New York City and the tri-state area. He has worked on the Celebrity cruise ships and has toured America and Canada with the Max Romeo reggae band in 1979.

Space Coast Jazz Society Presents - Annual SCJS Benefit featuring Big Jazz Band and Rising Stars.

Like the 2014 SCJS Annual Benefit, this year’s annual benefit will feature rising jazz stars and the 17-piece Space Coast Jazz Big Band.

Don’t miss it. The event will be held on Sunday March 8 from 2 PM to 4:30 PM in the Cocoa Beach Country Club auditorium. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Student tickets are $5.
