West Melbourne Annual Sandhill Crane 5K Run, June 7

  The City of West Melbourne is holding its annual Sandhill Crane 5K Run to benefit the Children's Hunger Project. The Children's Hunger Project helps to feed hundreds of Brevard children by providing them with backpacks full of food for weekend meals.

The race will be on June 7 at 8 a.m. at the West Melbourne Community Center located at 3000 Minton Road. Registration is $20, or $25 for registration and a t-shirt. Awards will be given to the top three male and female runners in each of the many age categories.

SPCA Of North Brevard Holds Its First Kitten Shower, May 17

The SPCA of Brevard invites you to its first kitten shower Saturday, May 17 from noon to 2:00 pm.

Meet adorable kittens and stay for fun shower games, snacks, refreshments and bottle feeding demonstrations.

  Kitten season is in full swing and the SPCA receives dozens of litters of abandoned kittens each year. It takes an enormous amount of time, energy and resources to help all these tiny babies to survive.

Lagoon Action Assembly-May 15th-17th

The Marine Resources Council (MRC) and the Florida Institute of Technology are coordinating an American Assembly on May 15–17, 2014 in Melbourne, FL to engage diverse stakeholders in identifying priority actions to restore the Indian River Lagoon. This assembly, titled the “Lagoon Action Assembly,” facilitates stakeholder delegates in two and a half days of problem solving.  Sponsorships are needed.  Find out more:

A diverse group of over 100 representatives from business, recreation, agriculture, infrastructure, elected leaders, economic and ecological experts plus many others will meet and discuss possible solutions for our dying Lagoon.
