FL Tech's Beneath The Waves Film Fest

Philip Gravinese, Biology PH.D student at FL Tech, and Dr. Lauren Toth Research Scientist at Biology Department of Fl Tech, on the upcoming, free and open to the public Beneath the Waves Film Festival to be held on the FL Tech Campus October 10th and 11th at Gleason Auditorium from 6 - 9 p.m. Pre-screening Science Activities and Experiments, and Q&A following the screening. The 11th is geared to Middle and High School students who are encouraged to enter the Beneath the Waves Youth Making Ripples Competition.

Citizen Science For A Troubled Indian River Lagoon

Citizen Scientist Tom Samm tests water from the Indian River.

Dr. Leesa Souto, Executive Director Marine Resources Council (MRC) and Tom Saam, Member of Board of Directors of MRC and water quality tester, on the current conditions in the Indian River Lagoon Estuary.

The Indian River Lagoon provides livelihood and recreation for thousands along the East Coast of Florida. Recent die offs of marine mammals have caused concern for experts and identifying the issues affecting the Lagoon have proven to be difficult. As with any ecosystem with a multitude of interactions between the species, the cause and effect are complex and interconnected.
