There are a multitude of ongoing exciting events and programs at the Barrier Island Sanctuary Management and Education Center, less formally known as the Barrier Island Center. The Center is located at 8385 South Highway A1A, Melbourne Beach - right in the heart of the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge. The Refuge was established by Congress in 1989 to protect sea turtles now threatened with extinction throughout the world.

The 16th Annual Space Coast Birding & Wildlife Festival kicks off Wednesday, January 23 and runs through Monday, January 28. The Festival is presented by Brevard Nature Alliance and headquartered at Brevard Community College, Titusville.

Barrier Island Center Hosts Turkey Creek Paddle Day

The Barrier Island Center will be offering a series of activities through November as part of Trash Treasure Month. Saturday, November 17^th is Turkey Creek Paddle day. Explore hydric and mesic hammocks and sand pine scrubbed by the treasured blackwater creek. The meeting place for the event is at Goode Park in Palm Bay at 1 pm. Please wear water shoes and sunscreen and bring a water bottle, a snack and insect repellant. Kayak tours for singles and pairs will be available with a limited enrollment of 20 people.
