Swingtime will pay tribute to three composers known for their Big Band and jazz music. Charlie Almeida will be the guest conductor for The Tribute to Nestico, Wolpe and Prince concert. Sammy Nestico, a composer and arranger of Big Band music, is best known for his arrangements for the Count Basie Orchestra. Dave Wolpe, another Big Band composer, has scored dozens of arrangements for the Glenn Miller Orchestra. The arrangements of Dr. Bill Prince span different genres of music. Vocalists for the concert are Kaimi Lucker, vocal coach at The Henegar, and Hank Rion, artistic director at The Henegar. Music selections include Sammy Nestico’s arrangement of “The Continental,” made famous in the 1934 film, The Gay Divorcee, and the first song to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song; a Bill Prince medley of Herb Alpert tunes; and Dave Wolpe’s Big Band version of the “Stars and Stripes Forever,” which will feature Overda Stonerock on piccolo.
